I like this time change

as opposed to the spring time change, but it is still kind of messing me up. It is 10:30 and I am absolutely STARVING...because my body is telling me it is 11:30 which is when I usually eat. Our landlord came yesterday because the blinds in Kelly and my room broke, and I had told him about it in a note I stuck in with the rent check. But I was totally unprepared, our room was probably the messiest it has ever been, Kelly has a big hole in her well from an long and very much unsuccessful attempt to hang a shelf. So my landlord and his wife were just standing there watching me (probably staring in horror at our room) as I took down the blinds. So meanwhile, we have nothing over our window, and the light from the hallway in our building shines through-very annoying. And he said he will have a new one in the next couple weeks. WEEKS?? UGHHH so frustrating. And the light in our closet broke, so it is really fun trying to find clothes in there when Kelly is asleep and it is pitch black.

This is so sad...they shut down 19th Ave. yesterday (the main road that runs down in front of my school all the way from the 101 to Park Presidio) because of this accident...so sad. There is a video with it too

oh my!

Today, I dissected a cadavor!!!! It was by far one of the COOLEST things I have ever experienced. absolutely fascinating!!! Too bad it takes so much school to become a surgeon....because I LOVE it. Hmm...maybe I have something to think about.

Kasey and Monica are both sick, so I have been talking vitamins and airborne and whatnot like crazy..I bought Lysol tonight, I am trying to cover all my bases. I cannnnnnot get sick right now. But I had a headache today, and I was wondering why my Ibuprofen did not work...until Kasey pointed out it was expired. Ha! Oops!

On a lighter note....

I love FALL!!! Well, maybe SF doesn't look quite like this, but it is nice a foggy and rainy here! :)

I don't understand

why some people are even in college. I have a group paper due for anatomy lab today, and we all took a question, but we met up last week and talked about them to make sure everyone was on the right track. I volunteered to be the one to put it together...didn't seem that hard because all everyone had to do was email me their Q and I would just paste it all together. Sounds simple right? First of all, when we talked last week, 2 of the girls had not even started and were not even on the right track. Then last night, (after working at both jobs for 10 hours by the way) I got everyone's email except for one, so I called her, and she said her roommate was using the internet but she would send it soon. I went to bed at 12, still had not come, so I checked this morning, and she did not send it until 12:30 last night. I tried to open it, and she sent it in some WEIRD format....I had to call Jameson and not even he could figure it out, but he finally figured something out to extract the file. And then I am reading over it, and one of the girls did a HORRIBLE job, so I have to change some things, and I have a test in lab in a few hours that I am not done studying for. YES. This is going to be a fun week. I can tell.

Alright. I am done venting. I hope everyone else is having a good day.

Can I please have an icedgrandetripleshotnonfatcaramelmacchiato?

Yes I was one of those really annoying customers in Starbucks today. I could have been worse I guess, not ALL of the boxes had something written in them. But I am tired. Too tired. And even though I don't think caffeine really has an effect on me...I think I am able to mentally convince myself that it is at least benefiting me slightly.

Right now, I am trying to write my paper that is due tomorrow for Developmental Psych...but instead I feel sick because Kasey made rice krispy treats and the 4 of us pretty much almost finished the entire 9 x 13 pan. I just could not stop eating them! And the problem is that I have been eating a lot healthier lately because my nutrition class motivates me too...but put out any sweets and I cannot help it no matter what I do. I made the mistake of bringing a bag skittles to that class once, and I ended up throwing half the bag away at break because I felt guilty for eating them when she was talking about eating right. I had a delicious veggie and whole wheat pasta dish for dinner, and then probably like 5 rice krispies. Oh brother.

Last night at work was brutal...there is always 2 cashiers working from 5-7:30 or 8, depending on how busy it is. So I was scheduled to work 3:30-7:30, with Nicole. I was also training my friend Elizabeth, because she is going to be working there too (woo!). So at 5:00, Nicole comes in, seems fine, and then 5 minutes later says she needs to go outside because she does not feel well. She said she was extremely dizzy and said she was going to pass out, so the managers sent her home. So, I had to work from 3:30-9:30 BY MYSELF...and of course it was extremely busy. I was DYING! I was sweating, stressing, running around like a chicken with my head cut off....I didn't make any mistakes or anything and of course I was "under no stress" in front of the customers...but it was intense. But I am not going to complain about the $65 tip!! That was nice. But at the end of my shift, I had absolutely NO energy.
Today I drove to Mountain View to see my grandparents and my aunt and cousin who are visiting from Oregon. It was great to see them all, we went to brunch and it was nice to get away for just a few hours. Yes, I know, my paper is due in the morning and I have not started, and yes, I know, I am BLOGGING...but sometimes a person needs a b-r-e-a-k. So I had a blast out there.

I have a few more things I want to post about...but it will have to wait, this paper will not write itself. I wish.

I know this is my 3rd post for tonight. But I just never posted anything about our reunion! When my parents moved to Carlsbad, they lived next door to the Crawfords and The Osterbergs. Megan is my age and Courtney was Nick's, and then the Osterberg boys, Ian was close to Nick and Courtney's age, Trevor close to Megan and I, and Daniel is younger. After the 3 moms had lunch recently after not getting together for a long time, we decided to all get together. So we had pizza at the Crawford's, hung out, looked at old pictures & watching old home movies. It was a blast. I think these will be lifetime friends, and it was awesome to be able to reestablish the friendships! The coolest thing was that it felt like we just picked up from where we left off.

(Top picture: Megan, me, Ian, Nick, Courtney, Trevor, Daniel)
Last week, we saw our first cadavers in Anatomy lab.. it was pretty awesome. It was a very strange experience actually. We weren't actually dissecting yet, just going over surface anatomy and we could touch if we wanted to (of course I did!). We are lucky because the cadavers are from UCSF Medical Center, and we get 6 every semester, and some schools have the same ones for years. If this makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to keep reading
The first cadaver we looked at was a 90 year old woman who died of septic shock. She also had breast cancer and a scar on each knee, but our teacher does not know what they are from. The man was 61 and died of some kind of stomach cancer. Their heads, hands, and feet were covered. The smell was not at all as bad as I expected...it was not pleasant, but it was completely bearable. Is it bad that I am excited to dissect a human but dreading dissecting a cat? Is that normal or twisted?

Missin' Ape

I sure do miss April. I love my new roommate Monica, she is so much fun. But I do still really miss April. I talk to her about once a week or so and we catch up, but it still really has not sunk in that she LIVES in NEW YORK! Kelly and I watched the whole Sex and the City series, and it was weird to think that April is around some of those places! I want to go visit her for about 2 weeks or so. I have always wanted to go NY, and can't wait!

why am I still awake??

Finally time for bed...I am so tired I feel like my body is just going to break into pieces and my eyes are just going to roll out of their sockets. I finally finished my online quiz for anatomy, and I can finally sleep. Lab was absolutely insane today, we have our first test next week on the first 2 labs. It is a practical but only with 10 questions...so that makes it really easy to do poorly if any are missed. The first test for anatomy lecture is a week from Friday on completely different information, not to mention the reading I have not started for developmental psych and nutrition....goodnight! I hope I don't dream of all the skull bones tonight. But we get to work on our cadavers next week which I am excited about!

School Dungeon

Well, I have not been keeping up on my blog. But I am sitting here at home in between classes, studying the skull for anatomy lab, eating a goat cheese pizza, and I thought, wow, I could really use a distraction. This can be considered as being productive- yes? (just nod along...) So far, I am only in the beginning of the third week, but I already have a general feel for what this semester is going to be like. Between work, and only 13 units, It is nothing but go go go. Mondays, I have anatomy lecture from 8:10-9:00, I come home, study, then I have lab from 1:10-3:55, come home and study, and nutrition from 7-9:45, come home, study, and sleep. And the rest of the week is not much better. It felt like it took a long time, longer than previous semesters, to get back into study mode. But now that I am starting to find it again, it feels good. Despite the craziness and stress, I enjoy the feeling of being busy and productive. I am also in the process of getting all of the information (deadlines, requirements, etc.) for all of the nursing schools I am applying to. I think I am going to volunteer again this semester a few hours a week, as if I am not busy enough. 2 jobs, 13 units, volunteer work, hopefully sleeping and eating. WHEW! Got to back to it! But I have to remember, I am going to be in this dungeon for the next few years, and it will only get worse after I am in nursing school! And I cannot wait (that is not sarcasm).

Ciao for now.

Well, it seems like summer has absolutely flown by. My new roommate Monica is moving in today, so I will have to readjust to living with roommates again. It sure is nice having the freedom of living alone! But I do miss having them around, so I am excited. Kelly and Kasey move back in next week. One of my best friends, Jessica (she was the good roommate Freshman year) came back from South Carolina a few days ago, and I can't wait to see her!

I feel like such a workaholic, it seems like it is all I am ever doing. The weekends are the worst, because I work Friday nights, Saturday from 11 AM-10 PM, and Sundays 12-4. I am welcoming the return of school! I am excited for my new classes, and just to get back into the groove of it all.

I started personal training, which is hard work, but nice because it is forcing me to actually GO to gym. What a concept. I have been swimming a lot lately too, and that is wonderful. I missed swimming a lot, but when you are not in shape, it is extremely hard work.

Well, I have to get ready for work now!

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Well, mission complete. I finished the strawberries in 4 days, every last one with no problem. And, I bought another box today. I think I have an addiction. Is it good or bad that they are going out of season soon??

Friday

Today I had to go to Walgreens to buy an energy drink before work because I was just so exhausted. There is a bum that sits in front of the store quite frequently, and as I walked out, I gave him a dollar. Something I never do, but he was just so friendly and sad looking, and didn't have the usual annoying beggar attitude. He thanked me and then said, "you have a very nice demeanor. Just looking at you makes me happy," then flashed me a big, toothless smile. I was kind of shocked by this but it really brightened my day. Is that strange? Or just strange that I think it is strange? I guess I also didn't expect such a sentence to come from a bum. I guess we are just guilty of making snap judgements about people, so much so that I forgot this man has a past. For all I know he could have been very successful in his prime, but for one reason or another has been forced to live in a homeless existence now.

But on the totally opposite end of the homeless spectrum, there is a homeless man that lives near my work. He has come in one other time while I was working, and again tonight. He comes in, starts yelling about who knows what, asks for some water or to use the restroom, and stills the tips. The first time he came in, luckily I only had $2 in my tip jar, and my manager saw him take it and took it back. He is a very tall and loud man, and pretty scary. Tonight I had over $20 in my jar when he came in. As soon as he came in, I grabbed the glass and hid it under the register. He throws his hands in the air and starts yelling, "what happened? What happened?" Asks for some water, and starts yelling at me asking why I took the tips away. My manager told him to never come back, and he left.

Homelessness is not new to me, I live in a city where it is seen on so many streets that shock wore off a long time ago. I used to feel bad and give change to most that asked, but after living here for 3 years, you just get numb to it. Whether this is sad, or just expected, I don't know..but it is strange.

........................

6 Pints of strawberries is the name, eating them all before they go bad is the game. Some days there is a guy who sells big boxes of strawberries in front of a church between Maximum Mama and my house. I bought a box (which is 6 pints...6 of the small green containers) a month or so ago, and ate every single berry in about 4 days. They are just THE best fruit. It is a good thing they don't turn you red the way carrots do when you eat a ton of them...or I would be in trouble! There are sooo many of them, I can't wait!!
